The crew of 9626 doing train stuff before they jump in a taxi and leave the engine running on the secondary line heading east just before RCAF road.

8848 Heading west toward Toronto - the base is just to the right, the new home of JTF2 to the left.

Obligatory zoomie-spotting comment: that looks like a Herk in the circuit in the background of the second picture.

It's quitting time. Time for hot meals and rubber wheels, as we put it down here.

Why do they leave the engine running? I figure it's something devious like a grow-op going on in there!

On an engine as large as a locomotive it is usual practice to just leave the thing running, especially if the outside temps are going to be near or below freezing. Most newer units are built with a fuel saving device that keeps the lead engine running, so it can keep air on the brakes (although the train should be secured anyway with a sufficient amount of handbrakes). The others that are in trailing will shut down after a 10 minute period of inactivity. Once the lead engine is commanded to move, the others attached to it will begin their auto-start-up procedure.

It's supposed to be but if they are like ours, the locks are worn and broken.

Never get caught. Better yet, just ask the crew, most don't mind.
