Into harms way

I think that many people fail to realize that although the prospect of going into a war zone is something most men and women in uniform hope they never have to do, it is in fact increasingly something that they do - repeatedly.

 

 

Hercules aircraft fly overhead on a daily basis, performing short field take offs and landings that are not for pleasing crowds air shows - no, this is a skill that is needed for survival in places where a lumbering aircraft is a fat and easy target for a rocket, a rifle or an anti-aircraft gun.

I pause to watch and wish them a safe trip and a rapid end to this folly.
