The weeks summary
I was in Emergency department on Wednesday afternoon to have a doctor write prescriptions for antibiotics that Dr Brassard wanted me on - we talked on the phone about my pain, bleeding and what seems to be a physical obstruction to the dilators. He figured I had a massive infection. I can buy into that as I am swollen and red.
I was in so much pain Saturday evening that I made another trip to the Emergency department where I was seen by a female GP that I had seen before. She poked, looked and then told me that she thought that the oral antibiotics were not working well and that it was onto intravenous antibiotics for me. Ouch - two hours at a time and we got back home at 11 PM.
Round two on Sunday morning but the ER knows nothing about it - which is when I learned that they don't have a sequential electronic history for me, which explains the hit and miss treatment. Anyhow, another two hours hooked up, off to the pharmacy to get some Percocet and run into another hurdle.
Percocet is the same medication that was given to us in Montreal for pain - it's Oxycontin, as opposed to the generic replacement Ratio Oxycocet which is part Oxycontin with 250 mg Tylenol. The pharmacists are having a huge battle with the Ontario Health Ministry and are refusing to provide non-generic drugs if a more profitable generic is available. Not impressed.
After that off to Ottawa to see my Ob/G Dr Barwin. We left Sunday afternoon to avoid a 600 km go and return in one day. Barwin pokes and prods and figures that I have some scar tissue forming which makes dilating difficult, some persistent granulation tissue that is causing pain, is bleeding and is prone to serious infections. He figures that the oral antibiotics are good enough...
Ouch again - I'm trying to book an appointment with Brassard to have him take a first hand look - this email doctoring is not working.
